Moving up and cutting down

18 Jul

A couple of days ago I decided to move back up to $100NL and reduce the number of tables I play to 16 whilst I’m working on my game. I think I’ll benefit more by moving back up to $100NL 40-100BB games and leaving the 20-50BB behind, I don’t think I can really maintain any sort of decent winrate at those tables with all the shortstackers playing them and it’s probably best for my game if I focus on moving up and improving rather than staying at $50NL and just grinding tonnes of hands like a zombie.

My win rate at the 100BB $100NL games is only just over 1BB/100 but my EV win rate is just under 3BB/100 so I’m sure I can beat the limit if I focus, reducing the number of table I play should help with that.

Over the past couple of days I’ve played just under 3k hands at 100nl and it went well, I’m up a couple of buy ins and been stacked with KK vs AA twice, I’ve had that scenario more than twice as often as AA vs KK so it’ll be nice when I run good and go on a heater.

The VPPĀ  rate at $100NL is better than at $50NL so I should be able to collect VPPS just as fast, I won’t be going for 200k hands this month though, I’m just going to aim for 4-5k a day for the rest of the month and go from there.

    Hello Mathew!
I think it’s a good idea mowing up and just playiunh tones of hands at 50NL. It is pretty hard, but i hope you proceed with that.
I have 1 quiestion. I want to record my play at 20-25 tables (record a video of all that happens on the screen) so that I can lately view it and analise my game. Can you please advise me a programm for that? Is there a programm that won’t slowdown the work of my PC, while I play 25 tables? + I’d also like to compress the size of the video, because it usually takes too much space on the disc…
Help please – anyway tx for your answer )

There’s a program called camtasia which will record your screen for you, it’s pretty expensive but you might be able to get it on trial. After you’ve made the video you can compress the file using winrar.

Whether ot not it slows your computer down depends on the speed of your computer.

    Hi there,

Nice website. I’ve found a lot of good things to read from it.
Just one question. I’ve read that you grinded your way up from 2NL.
How long did you need to level up to your current stakes.

    Cheers!

Hey gl with 100NL. I think you have the correct approach here. There are definitely times for mass tabling and there are times for playing less tables and really trying to improve your game.

The last thing you want is for your game to become stale and stagnant while your grind away just trying to collect VPPs and FPPs. I think this is how many fpp pros come to be.

    @NinjaRO

I played around 1m hands at 2nl during a 2 year period or so, during that time I also played quite abit of $5nl and some $10nl, by the time I was made pokerstars team pro I had just moved upto $25nl. I guess I was a little nitty with my bankroll (:

    @ eaglesfaan1

    Thx (:

Right now I’m playing quite tight, just trying to get to a possition bankroll wise where I can start opening up my game and not worry if I spew off a 20 buyins trying to get better, the fewer tables definitely seems to be helping me. Hopefully I can improve enough this year to be able to go for sne next year whilst maintaining a winrate, I don’t want to be a breakeven player earning $100k+ from sne, I’d rather earn less money and have the majority of my earnings come from table winnings.

Hi Chipstar, I wondered what your bankroll requirements are for each stake you play. I’ve read other comments you have made and you always say you’re nitty with your bankroll, just wondered how nitty!

    @ Yorkshire Pud

Ideally I’d want 100 buyins for each stake I play as I play poker for a living and can’t afford to go broke. I’ve played with only 40-50 buyins but having to cash out each month means if I go on a bad downswing I have to move back down, thats why I like to have 100 buyins.
