Last Sunday began with registering for event 21 of the WCOOP, the $215 NLHE event. Players were given 10k chips and the blinds were relatively low so there was plenty of play, unfortunately I ran completely card dead but somehow managed to stay in for 5.5 hours before getting all in preflop vs a blind steal with Ax vs KJ, he hit on the river and I was out in 2162/10492, about 800 places from making the money. I was disappointed having lasted so long with very little to work with, in the 360 hands I was dealt I only had QQ,JJ,TT and AK once and that was it, I even lost half of my stack with the jacks after being setmined. This just left me in the $530 NLHE event which started four hours later. Nothing really happened for me in this tournament, I had aces early on the button but everyone folded to me and I won was the blinds, then I ended up running into aces myself and going out 3921st after around 3 hours of play. This brings me onto Friday (well Saturday I guess, the tournament didn’t start until 1am) where I decided to register for event 37, the $320 NLHE with 10 minute blind levels. This tournament went a little better, I was dealt aces early in the tournament and managed to add a few thousand chips to my stack before going back down to my starting stack after an hour of not much happening, then with around 5k in chips and a low stack in relation to the blinds I shoved over the top of a co steal from the button with A2, he called with A8 but the flop came A2x and I managed to hold and double up, this gave me around 10k chips but with the blinds now around 400/800 with a 100 ante I only had an M of 5. A short time later I was dealt QQ on the button and managed to take the blinds, one hand later I raised again with Q9s and took the blinds again, this gave me a little breathing space. Nothing really happened much after that, I managed my stack by shoving atc when folded to me in late position when I thought I had fold equity and soon we were approaching the bubble. I really wanted to cash this one after going 0-3 in the other events so with around 7k chips and blinds at 600/1200 with a 150 ante I just folded the next 10-11 hands and crept into the money. With around 3500 chips and blinds at 1k/2k I shoved utg with 67s only to be called by A6 and ended up finishing 254/2343 for $637.50, not the $120k first prize but I’ll take it (: .
Thursday night saw me host my second event of the WCOOP, event 28 (NLHE $1050 buyin), I pretty much railed the final two tables to get to see how the players were playing, there were a lot of big names in the final 18 and when we were down to the final 9 there was one player I recognised the most (Shaundeeb) from one of the poker forums. He came into the final table as the short stack but soon tripled up with QQ vs JJ vs 66 all in preflop and never looked back. I don’t think Shaun likes doing deals so for the second time I didn’t have to use my abacus to work out the numbers, it turned out to be a good decision as he went on to win the tournament for $243,610. The next event I’ll be hosting is the sister event, event 48 on the 22nd, good luck to everyone who plays and I’ll see you on the final table (: .
I’ve taken the past 4-5 off to go through my database for leaks in my game, I’ve found quite a few and next month I’ll be getting some coaching by 3 of the best $100NL players on pokerstars so hopefully I’ll be able to beat $100NL consistently by the end of the year, it’ll make going for SNE a lot easier for sure. As of now I’ll be grinding the $50NL games with the view to move up to $100NL early November.
